Johnnie (Johnny) Lewis Johnson, born January 25, 1943 , passed away on December 27, 2017. Johnnie was born to Oakley & Mildred Johnson, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his sister, Melanie Johnson Thomas, brother-in-law Karl Thomas, uncle Edgar Lynn Lewis, nephews Lewis Ashton Thomas and Nicholas Austin Thomas, and many cousins and extended family.
Johnnie was a lifelong and dedicated member of First United Methodist Church of Mesquite, where he earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated from Mesquite High School, and was a trombone player in the marching band. He then earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from North Texas State University, while working in the grocery business and putting himself through school. Johnnie was an employee of Minyard’s Foods for many years, as well as with his sister and brother-in-law in their accounting practice. Johnnie made many friends & acquaintances throughout his career and enjoyed reminiscing with the customers when they came in the office.
Johnnie was a generous man who faithfully supported his church and cared deeply for his family. He was loyal, humble, a hard worker, & friend to many. Memorials may be made to the building and remodeling fund at First United Methodist Church of Mesquite.
Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at Laurel Oaks Memorial Park. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 6, 2018 at First United Methodist Church in Mesquite.
