William Rex Gowens (Rex), 91, of Mesquite was born January 15, 1927 in Tonk Valley, Texas to James and Blanch Gowens. Rex passed away peacefully on June 12, 2018 with his children by his side.
Rex is preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Setha Mavis Gowens; daughter, Susan Elaine Gowens; granddaughters, Emily Renee Allred and great granddaughter, Harper Lyric Gowens; silbings, Preston Gowens and Ruth Lyman.
He is survived by his five children, Jimmy (Jim) Rex Gowens of Lavon, Richard (Rick) Wayne Gowens of Garland, Lesa Gowens Allred of Wylie, Ronald (Ron) David Gowens of Garland, and William (Bill) Ray Gowens of Garland. He leaves a legacy of many grand, great, and great great grandchildren. William also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
Rex lived his life by example in all aspects from his faith in God to his strong work ethics and gentle spirit. He lived a long life filled with family and friends. He will be dearly missed by many.
In lieu of flowers the family requests a tribute donation to Alzheimer's Research in Rex Gowen's name.
Visitation is on Sunday, June 17th from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. at Laurel Oaks Funeral Home.
Funeral Service will begin at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 18th.
