Thomas Marks was born May 18, 1937 in Red Oak, Texas. He passed away at his home surrounded by family and friends, March 17, 2019.
Tom was a graduate of Ferris, TX High School where he excelled in FFA and showed a first prize winning steer. Tom served in the US Army from 1960 - 1966 stationed at Redstone Arsenal and in Germany. He was married to Betty Jo Alexander in 1997 and for 22 years after the deaths of their spouses they had a wonderful marriage. He retired after 40 years as a parts salesman for Southwest International.
Tom was a founding member of St. Marks United Methodist Church, Mesquite TX, celebrating 55 years of service in June. He sang in the choir for more than 30 years and was church treasurer for 26 years. There was not a committee or leadership role in which Tom did not serve from time to time. At the time of his death he was the Lay Leader.
Tom was preceded in death by Dorothy Moss Marks (wife), Caryn Alvarado (Betty’s daughter) and Thomas Robert and Katie Marks (parents). He is survived by Betty Marks (beloved wife); Gary Marks (son); Brad Alexander (Betty’s son); Steve Alexander (Betty’s son); Annette Holman (sister); Mary Ellen Huskerson (sister); Jane McCormack (sister). Together, Tom and Betty have 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at St. Marks United Methodist Church located at 3117 Motley Dr., Mesquite, Texas 75150. The service will follow at 11:00 A.M. Following the service, there will be a procession to Laurel Oaks Memorial Park where Tom will be laid to rest in the Garden of Rest.
