James Edwin Aston left this world on October 11, 2019 to be with: the love of his life, Edna Inez Aston; daughter, Ronda Jame Aston Ashby; and many family members who have gone before him. James was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Mr. Aston is survived by: his son, James ("Jim") R. Aston; grandchildren, Brad Aston and wife Laura, Brent Aston and wife Sharon, Brandi Aston Keezel and husband Holman and Mindi Day Douglas; and great-grandchildren Cassie and Wade Aston, Michael Rivers and Chance Keezel.
He retired from the Dallas Times Herald after 42 years of service to spend more time with his wife, family and friends...and of course he played golf as often as he could. To coworkers and friends, he was known as Jimmy and to family he was lovingly known as "Pop".
An accomplished golfer, Jimmy could have gone pro if not for the dedication he showed to his wife and children. He shared stories of playing with P.G.A. Champion Lee Trevino when Lee was still playing at the Mesquite Municipal Golf Course. Jimmy and Inez ran the concession stand back then. Jimmy shot under par more often than not and on four different occasions shot a hole-in-one. He played his last game at 82 where he shot an 82. This story made it to the newspaper…another story he was proud to share.
Recently, on his 94th birthday, Pop planned a trip with family to Hubbard, Texas to visit the place where he grew up and to explore the site where most of his family were laid to rest. He passed away two days before the trip with a fresh haircut and hopeful plans. Son Jim, grandchildren, spouses and great-grandchildren went forward with plans in Pop’s honor. He will be greatly missed.
