Helen Joy Hamilton was born on June 2, 1933 in Mansfield, Texas to Bruno Everett Perry and Opal Helen Kennon. She was raised with her two sisters, Barbara McCauley and Patsy Kirk, all of whom would remain close as their families grew. ‘Joy’ and her husband James moved to Mesquite soon after starting their family and remained in the same house for over 55 years. She soon joined Oates Drive Baptist Church and taught Sunday School, served in the church choir and was genuinely filled with joy as she worked making the church banners that adorned the sanctuary for years to come. Steadfast in her beliefs, God was always first in her life ...she believed in His resurrection, His salvation and above all, in His grace. She was filled with his love and preached to each generation that came through their house.
She was a dedicated housewife, an avid bingo player and the go-to grandma when you needed your pants hemmed or a dress taken up. She was gentle, caring, passionate and opinionated. She made the best ham sandwiches and sang the best soprano hymns. She was a God-fearing Christian woman who will never be forgotten...as she instilled a little piece of herself in all of us.
Joy is preceded in death by her husband, James, her son, Jerry Hamilton, her parents, Bruno and Opal and her sisters, Barbara and Patsy. She is survived by her children, Debbie Patterson, Pam Wommack and Mark Hamilton, her seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
