David Earl Jones was a talented musician, a protective father, and an adoring grandfather. He was born in the middle of the hot Texas summer, on July 18, 1949. in Dallas, Texas to Lessie James and Willie Lee (Walls) Jones. He grew up in the Dallas area, and raised his family in Garland. Music was the second most important thing in his life, and he loved the Beatles and Hank Williams. He liked to educate anyone who would listen about what good music was. Like all real Texans, he loved Whataburger, good salsa, and cold beer. His favorite ways to spend his days were with his kids and grandkids, taking the bus to the mall to stroll around, chatting on the phone with his sister, and watching DVDs of Ed Sullivan and Lawrence Welk.
He passed away in Garland on June 14, 2019. He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer (Lawrence) Burger; sons, James and John; grandchildren, Sophia Burger and Lydia Burger; and former wife Susan (Story) Jones. He is also survived by his sister Linda (Jones) McIlveene, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lessie James and Willie Lee (Walls) Jones, and his brothers Jerry, Perry, Jimmy, and Paul.
Services will take place Friday, June 21, 2019 at Laurel Oaks Funeral Home located at 12649 Lake June Road, Mesquite, Texas 75180. The family will begin receiving friends at 1:00 P.M. followed by the service at 2:00. After the service, there will be a short procession to Laurel Oaks Memorial Park where Mr. Jones will be laid to rest in the Garden of Faith.
