Billy L. Mitchell

August 13, 1952 ~ June 23, 2018 (age 65)

Billy Lawrence Mitchell, 65, passed peacefully on June 23, 2018. Born on August 13, 1952 in McKinney, Texas to Richard Calvin Mitchell and Katie Irene Gentle. During his childhood, his family moved to Mesquite, Texas wherein he lived the remainder of his life. While attending Agnew Junior High, he met the love of his life, Donna Dodd. They were married on October 3, 1969. They were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Donna Michelle and Shiree Lynn.

Billy worked as a carpenter and built many homes and apartments throughout the DFW area. He was a very hard-working man that thrived to provide for his family. He worked along-side his brother, Dale, for 30 years.

His favorite past times include listening and dancing to country music, singing karaoke, playing poker, pool, and dominoes. He enjoyed watching football and baseball and spending time with family and friends. He was quite the jokester and loved to make people laugh. He really enjoyed spending time with his many grandchildren. He loved watching all of them in their many activities, as he always bragged on how each of them were the “best”.

He is preceded in death by his Mother, Katie Irene Gentle; his father, Richard Calvin Mitchell; his sister Violet Sue Hansard; and his brother, Joe Lloyd Wilson. He is survived by his wife of 48 ½ years, Donna Mitchell; daughter, Donna Michelle Gilbert and her husband, Steve; daughter Shiree Sparr and her husband, Scott. Also survived by his many Grandchildren; Cody, Allison, Brenden, Baylee, Jenna, Katie, Sarah, Adryonna and Great Grandchild, Cole. In addition; Brother, Calvin Dale Mitchell, and his wife Annette; sister, Cathy Ivey, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

The visitation will be Wednesday, June 27th from 6:00 – 8:00PM. The funeral service will be on Thursday, June 28th at 10:00AM. He will be laid to rest at Laurel Oaks Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests a donation in honor of Billy Mitchell to the Alzheimer’s Association.
