Anita Jimenez GarciaSeptember 18, 1920 ~ October 30, 2017 (age 97)
Anita Garcia, age 97 of Del Rio, Texas passed away at her home on Monday, October 30, 2017. She was born to the late Jesus Jimenez and Anita Randez on September 18, 1920.
Anita is preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, Jose Luis Garcia.
Anita is survived by her son, Joe Garcia and his wife, Olga; daughter Zoila Aguirre and husband, Jesse, and daughter, Gloria Johnston. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Rosemary Aguirre, David Aguirre, Robert Aguirre, Chris Matthews, Veronica Dorner, Joe Garcia Jr., and Teresa Lowrey. She also leaves behind thirteen great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Anita grew up on her Aunt and Uncle’s farm and at a very young age learned what hard work was. She often told the story of waking up before sunrise and feeding the animals at five years old. While in her early 20’s she worked for the railroad laying track alongside the men. When she was 27 years old Anita and some friends travelled to California for work and there she met Jose Luis Garcia at a pecan shelling factory. It was love at first sight and 2 weeks later they were married.
In 1954, after travelling for work a few more years, Jose and Anita finally settled in Dallas, Texas.
A consummate mother and homemaker, Anita worked tirelessly to care for her family. Anita always put them first. She was an excellent cook and always enjoyed preparing meals for her family. She was great neighbor and friend to all. Anita loved to laugh and have fun. You would always find her in a good mood if her Dallas Cowboys won or if Mexico won a soccer match. Anita loved taking care of her plants and flowers around her home; she had a real green thumb.
Anita was an incredible wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother. We will miss her dearly.
