Alvin G. Knox passed away Friday afternoon, January 10, 2020 in Mesquite, Texas. He was born July 22, 1941 in Denison, Texas to James Alvin and Norma Barbara (Johnson) Knox. He was 78 years of age. Alvin graduated from Mesquite High School, then after graduating Paris Junior College, married Martha McClellan at Rylie First Baptist Church in 1962. Alvin graduated from Howard Payne University and then attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Alvin was husband, father, papaw, brother and a hard working “Truck Driving Preacher” who lived for his family and loved giving big hugs. He loved God and wanted everyone to know Jesus, who is the only way to God the Father. He worked driving the BIG trucks for 47 years and didn’t want to stop, but had to put the brakes on after health problems took over at 71 years old.
He is preceded in death by his mom, dad, and two brothers, Cecil & William Knox. Alvin is survived by his wife, Martha; three daughters, Tina and Tony Gumber, Cheryl and Tom Dean, and Karen Latchaw; a son, Cameron Knox and U’Tona Johnson; 14 grandchildren, Jessica and Cody Branscum, Blake Thompson, Nicolas Knox, Cameron (CK) Knox, Levi Latchaw, Camille Knox, Madi Johnson, Mandy and Taelor, Phillip Jr., Angela, Stephen and Rachael, Shaun and Stacye, Megan and Tony, and Tommy III; 10+ great grands; one great-great-grand; a brother and his wife, James and Susie Knox; sister-in-law, Lilo Knox; and a sister, Sara and Jack Lundy. He was also like a Dad to many of his nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends at Laurel Oaks Funeral Home from 6 - 8:00 p.m., Monday, January 13, 2020. The service will be at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at Laurel Oaks Funeral Home. Rev. W. L. McClellan will be officiating and services will conclude in the chapel. Laurel Oaks Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements and is located at 12649 Lake June Road, Mesquite, Texas 75180.
