Tommie L. Morris passed away February 7, 2018. She was born in Maypearl, Texas on August 15, 1922. Tommie graduated from Maypearl High School in 1940. She was secretary for First United Methodist Church in Mesquite from 1956 to 1964. She was also a school secretary for Mesquite ISD for 20 years, from 1964 to 1984. She was the secretary that opened two schools, Rutherford Elementary and Shands Elementary. During her years as secretary for the Mesquite ISD, she was also a member of the Texas Educational Secretaries Association, which she also served as president. She was preceded in death by her husband, E. R. “Tut” Morris as well as her parents and her brother. She is survived by her son, Dean and wife Jane, granddaughters, Heather and husband Brian Swain, Megan Morris, Holley and husband Sam Waughtel, four great-grandchildren, Lily, Tucker and Bella Swain and Dawson Waughtel, and two bonus grandsons, Thomas and Blaine Hardin.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to First United Methodist Church of Mesquite.
