Jimmy Nelson MayAugust 9, 1938 ~ June 13, 2017 (age 78)
Jimmy Nelson May was born in Crandall, Texas on August 9, 1938 to Theodore Clifton and Annie Doris (Nelson) May. He passed away on June 13, 2017 in Mesquite, Texas at the age of 78.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, James Riley May.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Della Harris May; daughter, Susan Lynn May; sister-in-law, Ann Harris; and six nephews.
Jimmy attended school in Crandall, at age 14 he began doing janitorial work for the school. When he was 16 he started working as the projectionist at the Princess Theater in Crandall. Shortly after graduating from high school in 1956, Jimmy started his employment with Lone Star Gas Company in Dallas. He received an Associate Degree from Mountain View College in 1978. After more than 41 years he retired as a construction and maintenance superintendent for Lone Star Gas. He continued to work doing contract inspections on gas line installations for 3 additional years. Jimmy became a member of the Church of Christ in 1961. He served as deacon for several years for the church in Wilmer. He later served as deacon for the Rylie Church of Christ in Dallas for over 19 years.
He enjoyed cooking and planning church fellowships. He would coordinate the chili suppers at Wilmer Church and the fish fry for Rylie for 15 years. In 2011, he started worshipping at Seagoville Church of Christ, his health was rapidly declining but he enjoyed attending worship services whenever he was able.
Since June 2015, Jimmy has received care at Christian Care Center in Mesquite. The family has appreciated the quality of care he was provided.
Also a very special thanks for the many prayers offered on his behalf during this difficult time. He appreciated the cards he received. He loved and enjoyed the visits as well.
Jimmy will be missed greatly.
