David Charles Smothermon

July 28, 1944 ~ October 21, 2017 (age 73)

The Piano Brothers

Loving Husband, Daddy and Paw Paw, David Charles Smothermon was born on July 28, 1944 in Dallas, Texas to Haskell and May Jeanette Smothermon and passed away peacefully with Sandy, the love of his life, by his side on October 21, 2017. David worked as a Chief Engineer at many large buildings in Downtown Dallas throughout his life but everyone knows his true love was music. As a small boy he traded someone for his first ukulele. He taught himself to play and before long his church had him playing "You Are My Sunshine" during church services. David Charles was known by many as he played and sang in every honk-tonk throughout the Dallas area including The Grapevine Opry, Sadie Hawkins, the notorious Debonair Danceland and even appeared on the Rootin' Tootin' Jim Newton Show. My how people did love to hear him sing and play. David is survived by his wife of 35 years, Sandy Baker Smothermon, children Sharon Owen and husband Mike, Scott Smothermon, Traci McCorkle and husband Gary, grandchildren Nick, Zac, Morgan, Meriah, Andrew, Amanda and Jacob, great-grandchildren Aiden, Ethan, Savannah and Zayda, sister Doris Parker and husband Frank, nephew Gary Parker and niece Robin Hoelting, and a host of friends and extended family. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Thomas and his dear nephew Bill.
